Golden Rams knock off Stillman, advance to SIAC title tilt

Columbia, S.C.- Senior Hector Carrasquillo recorded two hits and three RBIs to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 5-2 victory over Stillman College in the 2015 SIAC Baseball Championship Tournament. With the win, ASU advances to the title game were they will face an opponent from the loser's bracket.
 
Albany State is now 19-31 overall, while Stillman, the SIAC West Division's top seed and four-time defending conference champion, falls to 13-20. ASU is the East Division's third-seeded team.
 
After two scoreless innings by both teams, Albany State scored all of its runs in the top of the third inning. Ryan Latner hit a single to send Emmanuel Santos home for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Terrence Worthy walked to score Latner, and the Golden Rams led 2-0. A three-run double by Carrasquillo provided ASU with a commanding 5-0 advantage.
 
Stillman did score runs in the bottom of the fourth and ninth innings, but the Golden Rams defense stood strong against the SIAC powerhouse.
 
Latner added two hits and an RBI for the Golden Rams. Pitcher Sahir Fersobe (3-5) picked up the mound win while pitching all nine innings.
 
ASU had six hits and committed three errors for the contest.
 
Albany State will play in the championship game on Monday, April 27 at Capitol City Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m
