Golden Rams Baseball dismantles Morehouse

Albany, Georgia- Emmanuel Santos collected two hits and five RBIs to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to an 18-4 victory over the Morehouse Maroon Tigers. With the win, ASU improves to 4-19 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC. Morehouse drops to 8-9, 5-3.

Albany State began the demolition of its guests in the first inning. After Morehouse walked the first four ASU batters for a 1-0 lead, Santos singled to score Terrance Worthy and Allen Hardy to increase the team's advantage to 3-0. Jeremy Arrington and Santos both scored on wild pitches for a 5-0 edge. Ryan Latner later returned to bat and belted a single to bring Uwem Udofia and Zack Jones for a 7-0 lead at the end of the inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Albany State increased its lead to 9-0. Worthy scored off another Morehouse error, and Hardy went home when Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Worthy's double that scored Latner was the highlight of the third inning. Worthy scored again thanks to an outfield error by the Maroon Tigers, and the Golden Rams continued the rout with an 11-0 lead.

After Morehouse scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, Albany State answered in the bottom of the seventh with two runs of its own. Santos stole home base for the first run, and Ryan Hickox picked up an RBI when he sent Hector Carrasquillo home.

ASU added five more runs, including a two-run homer by Hardy, in the bottom of the eighth inning to solidify its dominance for the contest. Morehouse did score two more runs in the top of the ninth inning, but it was never a serious threat to the Golden Rams' large lead.

Latner and Hardy each recorded two hits and two RBIs. Worthy added two more hits. Pitcher John Paul Bernard was the winning pitcher.

The Golden Rams had eleven hits and one error as a team.

Albany State returns to action on Sunday, March 15 when they host Morehouse in a doubleheader to complete the three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
