Atlanta, GA- Dominique Pollard scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams lost to the Clark Atlanta Panthers 75-72. With the loss, ASU drops its fifth straight game and falls to 8-16 overall and 4-13 in the SIAC. CAU improves to 6-18, 5-12.
After opening the game playing even with Clark Atlanta, Albany State built an early lead. With the score tied at 14 at the 11:12 mark, the Golden Rams used a 10-0 run for a 24-14 edge three minutes later. However, ASU went on a cold spell after that, and CAU was able to take advantage. When halftime rolled around, Albany State trailed to 37-34.
In the second half, the two teams recorded five ties and 10 lead changes. Trailing 69-66 with 47 seconds left in regulation, Davetom Odom nailed a three-pointer to tie the game again. Clark Atlanta hit some free throws in the waning seconds to take a 75-72 lead. With four seconds left, Larry Bullock attempted a three-pointer that would have sent the game into overtime, but it was off the mark.
Odom finished with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals.
The Golden Rams shot 19-of-58 (32.8%) from the field, 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three-point range, and 27-of-45 (60%) from the free throw line.
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, February 21 when it hosts the Morehouse Maroon Tigers at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. Morehouse won the initial meeting 70-68. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
