Lady Rams softball easily disposes of Paine College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALBANY- The Albany State Lady Rams defeated the Paine College Lady Lions in a doubleheader by the scores of 12-2 and 1-0. Both games ended in the fifth innings due to the eight-run rule. With the wins, ASU improves 13-13 overall and 11-3 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 1-15, 1-11.


Game 1: Albany State 12, Paine 2

After allowing Paine to score two runs in the top of the first inning, Domonique Bryant put Albany State on the board when she scored off a wild pitch. In the second inning, Malea Maye hit a single to score Ambrionna Atkism. Chelsea Hicks added a double that brought in Bryant, Candice Blair and Chaconna Marks to make the score 5-2.

The Lady Rams added two more runs in the fourth inning. Toni Coleman's single scored Hicks, and Alexa Lopez's sacrifice bunt scored Marks for a 7-2 advantage. Albany State added five runs in the fifth innings to account for the final score.

Hicks and Marks each collected three hits for Albany State. Hicks also had four RBI's and Marks added three more. Lopez recorded the mound win.

The Lady Rams had 12 hits and 2 errors for the game.


Game 2: Albany State 11, Paine 0

Coleman helped start the ASU scoring with a sacrifice fly that scored Chastity Carter for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Taylor Holmes followed with a double to bring in Marks and Malea Maye, and Bryant had a single that scored Holmes. Anria Peterson added another run to put the Lady Rams ahead 5-0 after the inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Peterson hit a double to score Hicks for a 6-0 advantage. The Lady Rams added five more runs in the fourth inning, and continued to hold Paine scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the contest.

Hicks, Holmes and Bryant each collected two hits and two RBI's apiece for Albany State. Hicks also recorded the mound win.

ASU had 10 total hits and two errors for the game.

Albany State returns to action Tuesday, March 25 when they host Georgia College and State University. Game times are slated for 4 and 6 p.m.
