ATLANTA, GEORGIA- Freshman Artisha Holston recorded a double-double with game-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams past the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers 89-66. With the victory, ASU, ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II South Region, improves to 18-5 overall.
Albany State finishes the SIAC season with a league-leading 13-3 record and has already secured the number one seed for the upcoming SIAC Tournament as the East Division champion.
Clark Atlanta falls to 16-8, 9-5.
Trailing 20-19 with 9:56 left in the first half, Albany State caught fire from the field. Led by Holston's inside play and Kourtney Alexander's outside shooting, the Lady Rams finished the half on a 27-7 run to take a commanding 46-27 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Keidra Green hit a three-pointer to give Albany State their largest advantage, 60-33, with 15:59 left to play. Clark Atlanta was able to cut its deficit to 70-54 at the 8:07 mark. However, the Lady Rams were able to restore their lead, and were never seriously challenged by CAU again.
Alexander finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds. Green netted nine points, and Nicole Wilson added eight points and five rebounds. Point guard Mecca Frost recorded a game-high eight assists. Ieshia Young came off the bench to add five more assists.
The Lady Rams shot 34-62 (54.8%) from the field, 5-15 (33.3%) from three-point range, and 16-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line. Albany State held CAU to 32.7% shooting and outrebounded the team 44-30.
ASU returns to action for its final regular season contest on Thursday, February 27th at HPER Gym when it faces Tuskegee University in a non-conference game. The team will host Take-A-Kid-To-A-Game and Greek Night. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
