Golden Rams rally to defeat AUM

Montgomery, Ala.- Earl Farnum scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 73-70 road win over Auburn University-Montgomery. With the victory, ASU improves to 1-2 overall.  AUM drops to 3-2.

The Golden Rams got off to a slow start and couldn't find the basket in the early going. The Warhawks took advantage and built a 14-point (27-13) lead at the 7:40 mark of the first half. Albany State used its full-court defensive pressure to make a solid run and get back into contention. ASU only trailed 39-34 at intermission.

During the second half, the Golden Rams and AUM swapped the lead seven times and played to a stale mate on 10 possessions. Albany State's first lead came at the 3:45 mark of the second half when Farnum slammed home a fast-break dunk and gave them a 62-60 lead.

With AUM leading 68-67, Farnum gave the Rams the lead for good with a pair of free throws with 1:26 to play. A jumper by
Davetom Odom upped the lead to three with just over a minute to play.

A layup by Warhawks trimmed the lead to one with 45 seconds, but Farnum tipped in a missed attempt from Odom and pushed the lead back to three with 12 ticks on the clock. AUM had a pair of opportunities to tie the game in the final 12 seconds, but the attempts were off the mark.

Odom finished the game with 21 points and a game-high five steals.
Larry Bullock added another 15 points for the Golden Rams.

Albany State shot 22 of 60 (36.7) from the field, 22 of 27 (81.5) and 7 of 26 (26.9) from three-point range.

The Golden Rams return to action on Wednesday, November 18th in their home opener against Georgia College & State University at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
