Golden Rams beat the fire out of Lane Dragons

Albany State records its second consecutive shutout.

Albany, Ga.- Quarterback Frank Rivers was 21-32 for 290 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 33-0 victory over the Lane College Dragons. With the win, ASU recorded its second consecutive shutout and improved to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC. Lane drops to 1-4, 1-3.
 
After a scoreless first quarter, Albany State scored its first points of the game when
Zachary Gayden-Holley connected on a 21-yard field goal to cap a 4-play, 8-yard drive that spanned over 1:15. Less than two minutes later, the Golden Rams used only one play to increase their lead to 10-0 when Rivers found Leonard Walker for a 54-yard touchdown. Gayden-Holley added the PAT.
 
At the 3:57 mark of the second period, Rivers connected with tight end
Leonard Walker for a 12-yard pass, and the Golden Rams led 17-0 after Gayden-Holley's PAT. The drive went for six plays and 53 yards in 3:13.
 
Gayden-Holley made his second field goal of the night with a 32-yarder with :27 left to send ASU in the locker room with a commanding 20-0 lead at intermission.
 
Early in the third quarter, Rivers gave the Golden Rams a 26-0 lead with a 1-yard rushing touchdown with 9:44 left to play. The PAT failed. ASU went 75 yards in 10 plays with a drive time of 5:16.
 
Albany State's scoring parade ended at the 11:06 mark of the final stanza. Rivers connected with
Devonta Osborne for a 13-yard touchdown to complete a 10-play, 65-yard drive that used 5:39.
 
Walker finished with six catches for 124 yards. Osborne had six receptions for 84 yards. Running back
Jarvis Small gained over 100 yards for the third straight game. He finished with 104 yards on 26 carries.
 
The Golden Rams offense produced a season-high 486 total yards.
 

Larry Whitfield led the Golden Rams' defense with seven solo tackles, a sack, two tackles for a loss of 10 total yards, and an interception. Tavarius Washington added another seven tackles (six solo) and a pass breakup.
 
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, October 18th when it travels to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
