Golden Rams drop close game to Claflin

ORANGEBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA- Senior guard Jaren Harris scored a game-high 22 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams fell to the Claflin University Panthers 71-68.  With the loss, Albany State falls to 6-17, 4-11 in the SIAC.  Claflin improves to 9-15, 7-9.

Due to early foul trouble to members of its’ front line, the Golden Rams started slowly.  Playing short-handed for most of the first half, ASU trailed Claflin 34-20 with two minutes left.  However, the Golden Rams ended the half on a 7-2 run to close their gap to 36-27 at intermission.

In the second half, the Golden Rams trailed 45-37 before a 8-0 run helped them tie the game at 45 with 13:24 remaining.  Claflin regained their eight-point advantage with 3:56 to play, only to see Albany State go on another run to cut their deficit again.  After the Panthers missed two free throws that would have put the game away, Harris had an opportunity to tie the game with a three-pointer, but his shot hit the back rim as the horn sounded.

Andrew Covin scored 16 points to join Harris in double figures for Albany State.  Terrance Bowmen led Claflin with 18 points.
