Senior Jillian Anderson recorded a team-high 15 kills, but the Albany State Lady Rams fell to the Valdosta State Lady Blazers 3-1 in a non-conference battle. With the loss, Albany State drops to 13-10 overall. VSU improves to 17-11.
The Lady Rams showed that they would not be intimidated by their guests in the first game. Taking the momentum early and often and capitalizing on some crowd-pleasing plays, Albany State took Game 1 25-22.
In the second game, Albany State was unable to keep their momentum going. Falling behind 5-0, ASU could not catch Valdosta State to make a serious run. They dropped the contest 25-10.
Game 3 offered more spectacular action than the previous tilt. After trailing early again, Albany State made a run and was able to tie the game at 24. However, the Lady Blazers took the next two possessions and won 26-24.
In the final game, the Lady Rams and Valdosta State remained in a heated battle. The Lady Blazers were able to end the game on a run, and the Albany State lost 25-21.
Ashley Johnson added 14 kills and seven digs for the Lady Rams. Kristen Randolph recorded 13 kills and nine digs. Setter Amanda Cook had a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs. Kaliah Carter led Albany State defensively with a game-high 20 digs.
The Albany State Lady Rams return to SIAC action on November 7th in Orangeburg, South Carolina when they face the Claflin University Lady Panthers. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. Claflin won this season's first meeting in Albany (September 29th) 3-1. The Lady Rams are currently first (12-2) in the SIAC East Division.
