Luis Martinez joined the Golden Rams in the fall of 2022. After his first season as an Assistant/Infield Coach, he is now entering his fourth season as the Infield Coach, Catching Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator.
Since joining the Albany State staff, Martinez's recruiting efforts and player development have played a crucial role in maintaining the winning tradition of ASU under Head Coach Scot Hemmings. During his time as an assistant, the Golden Rams have secured two Regular Season Titles (2023, 2024), one SIAC Tournament Championship (2025), and achieved their first win in school history at the South Regional Tournament against Lynn University (2025).
Under Coach Martinez's tenure, the Golden Rams have recorded the highest fielding percentage in the SIAC for the last three seasons, achieving .962 in both the 2023 and 2025 seasons, while the 2024 season saw a fielding percentage of .967. The infielders have received numerous accolades over the years. In the 2025 season, three infielders were named First Team All-Conference, and shortstop Emory Stephens earned the SIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player award. In 2024, second baseman Jonathan Logsdon led the infielders with a .977 fielding percentage and was later recognized as a First Team All-American and the SIAC Player of the Year. Coach Martinez guided the Golden Rams to a 38-11 record in 2023, marking one of the best seasons in program history with the most wins. That season, four infielders were named First Team All-Conference.
After completing his collegiate playing career, Martinez became a Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach at Thomas University, where he oversaw the development of position players. He was also instrumental in helping Thomas University achieve a ranking as the number 8 high school recruiting class in the NAIA in 2021.
Martinez continued his baseball journey at Thomas University, where he holds the record for the most walks in a single season (47). In 2019, he was part of the Sun Conference Championship team and was selected for the Sun Conference All-Tournament team. He earned the Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year award from Thomas University in 2019 for his accomplishments.
A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Martinez graduated from high school in 2012. He moved to the United States in 2015 and attended junior college at ASA College-Miami. He holds several records at ASA, including the most hits in a career (85) and the most walks in a career (70). His on-base percentage was .463, ranking second both in a single season and for his career. Martinez's fielding percentage during his time at ASA was .970. In 2017, he participated in the Florida Sophomore Junior College All-Stars game.
Martinez graduated from Thomas University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and completed his Master of Business Administration in 2022. He currently resides in Albany, GA, with his wife Jazmine Martinez and their daughter, Mia.
