Gilberto Amarante

Gilberto Armante enters his second season as an assistant baseball coach. On the field, he will instructs pitchers, infielders, assist hitters and coaches first base.

During his first season as assistant baseball coach in 2011, Amarante led the Golden Rams to the SIAC championship game, finishing as the 2011 runner-up. He helped the Golden Rams to a third-place finish in 2012.

Prior to his appointment as an assistant coach for Albany State, Amarante served as an assistant baseball coach at Darton College in 2010 and as an assistant coach for the summer team, Macon Giants in the Great South League.

During his collegiate career, Amarante was a standout baseball player. As a player at Darton College during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Amarante was named Freshman of the Year in 2006 and lead the team in homeruns in 2007. He was Darton's right fielder for Coach Glenn Eames. Upon completion of a stellar career at Darton, Amarante earned a baseball scholarship to Faulkner University, where he played his junior year. In his senior season, he transferred to Albany State University where he lettered in baseball. Amarante was a First Team selection on the SIAC All-Conference Team in 2009. He plays Georgia-Florida league baseball

Amarante is native from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a graduate of Divina Providencia High School in the Dominican Republic, where he also played baseball for six years under the legendary Coach Homero Lajara  for Lajara Team Baseball Academy; one of the best teams in the country.

Amarante earned his Associate's degree in Health Physical Education  from Darton College in 2010 and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Albany State University.

Born March 25, 1983, Amarante hase two sons, Christopher Gabriel (4) and Elijah Alexander (3). He is the son of Modesto Amarante and Genoveva Perdomo.
