Davis Knapp

The 2019 season will mark the second for Davis Knapp as an assistant coach at Albany State University. Prior to coming to ASU, he spent the last four seasons as a graduate assistant and player at the University of South Alabama. Knapp’s responsibilities include development of infielders and catchers, coaching first base, and generating defensive alignments during games.

A native of Tallassee, Alabama, Knapp is a 2011 graduate of Tallassee High School. He was a two-sport athlete at THS, playing both baseball and football. After graduation, Knapp attended Darton State College and competed two years for coach Scot Hemmings. Knapp earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and holds the school record for HBP in a single season and career. Upon graduating from Darton, Knapp signed with the University of South Alabama to continue his playing career. As a senior, he helped the Jaguars capture the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship. After completing his playing career, he stayed at USA as a graduate assistant for two years under Coach Mark Calvi. During this time the Jaguars won the 2016 Regular Season Title and the 2017 Tournament Title, as well as, competed in NCAA post season play both years.

Coach Hemmings says about Knapp, “Coach Knapp is the model person for this program to follow.  He displays what we want in our ASU players in the fact that he was a great player, a great person, a great student who graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, and is a great student of the game.  I truly believe our program got better by hiring Coach Knapp as he will bring a wealth of knowledge to both the offensive and defensive side.  Coach Knapp understands the system I teach and the learning curve will be minimal.  ASU is very fortunate to have Coach Knapp here on staff.”

Knapp is a 2015 graduate of The University of South Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a 2017 graduate of The University of South Alabama with a Master’s degree in Exercise Science. He is married to the former Amanda Cook of Leesburg, Georgia.
