ALBANY, GA – The Albany State University women's volleyball team returns to the court Tuesday as the Lady Golden Rams travel to Livingston, Alabama, to compete in the UWA Invitational inside Pruitt Hall.
Albany State will play a pair of matches on the day, beginning with host West Alabama at 2 p.m. ET before taking on the United States Sports Academy at 5 p.m. ET.
The Lady Golden Rams enter Tuesday's action with momentum after putting together an impressive showing at the Black Excellence Volleyball Circuit Showcase this past weekend. Albany State went undefeated across three matches, earning victories over Virginia Union, Savannah State and Clinton College to improve to 4-3 overall while extending its winning streak to four matches.
Albany State opened the showcase Friday with a straight-set victory over Virginia Union before returning Saturday to defeat Savannah State in four sets and sweep Clinton College.
The Lady Golden Rams were efficient offensively throughout the weekend. Albany State hit .348 against Virginia Union, .297 against Savannah State and .353 against Clinton College.
Against Savannah State, Jarianis Perez helped lead the attack with eight kills on a .353 hitting percentage while adding seven digs and two service aces. Amiria Anderson contributed seven kills while hitting .316, and Shaniya Banks finished with six kills on a .444 hitting percentage.
Albany State also made its presence felt at the service line, finishing with 14 aces against Savannah State. Myra Lopez, Liannette Burgos and Trinity Britt each recorded three aces in the victory. Burgos directed the offense with a team-high 21 assists, while Britt added 10.
Banks followed with a dominant performance against Clinton College, recording a match-high 10 kills without an attack error on 13 attempts for a .769 hitting percentage. She also added three solo blocks and three block assists. Perez contributed six kills and eight digs, while Serenity Jackson finished with five kills on eight attempts.
The Lady Golden Rams finished the Clinton match with 32 kills and just eight attack errors while hitting .353 as a team. Albany State also recorded nine service aces and 10 total blocks.
Tuesday's opening match will also provide Albany State with an opportunity to face a familiar opponent. The Lady Golden Rams faced West Alabama earlier this season at the Bobcat Classic, falling in four sets despite recording 45 kills and hitting .258 as a team.
With four consecutive victories behind them, the Lady Golden Rams will look to carry their recent momentum into Livingston as they continue their nonconference schedule.
