Albany, Ga. — The Albany State Lady Golden Rams wrapped up the regular season on a high note Thursday afternoon, delivering a dominant doubleheader sweep over Trinity College of Jacksonville at the Albany State Softball Complex. Albany State secured a 2-0 victory in Game 1 before erupting offensively for a 12-2 win in Game 2, building momentum as the team prepares for postseason play.
The sweep showcased the Lady Golden Rams' balanced attack, strong pitching, and timely hitting, giving Albany State an impressive finish heading into the SIAC Championship Tournament.
Game 1: Pitching and Defense Lead Albany State to 2-0 Victory
The opening game featured a disciplined defensive effort and efficient offense as Albany State controlled the pace from start to finish.
The Lady Golden Rams struck first in the bottom of the first inning when
Erielle Reid reached base and later crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly from
Avrey Fisher, giving Albany State an early 1-0 advantage.
Albany State continued to apply pressure throughout the contest, generating consistent contact at the plate. In the sixth inning, Abbi Jones delivered a clutch RBI double to score Fisher and extend the lead to 2-0.
The pitching performance from
Tamia Pierce anchored the victory. Pierce was sharp in the circle, earning her eighth win of the season after allowing just one hit across seven shutout innings. She struck out two batters while walking only one, keeping Trinity's offense off balance throughout the afternoon.
The Lady Golden Rams totaled eight hits in the opener, with Jones,
Amari Mapps, and
Kaylah Howard each contributing multi-hit performances. Howard also added speed on the bases, while Reid sparked the offense from the leadoff spot.
Game 2: Explosive Sixth Inning Powers Lady Golden Rams to Sweep
Albany State carried its momentum into Game 2 and quickly found its rhythm offensively. The Lady Golden Rams opened the scoring in the second inning when
Brielle Thompson drove in a run with an RBI single before
Kaylah Howard followed with another RBI hit to make it 2-0.
After Trinity briefly tied the game in the third inning, Albany State immediately regained control.
Howard delivered again in the fourth inning with another RBI single, helping ignite a productive frame that pushed the Lady Golden Rams back in front. Ari McKenzie later added an RBI groundout, allowing Albany State to build separation.
The offense fully exploded in the sixth inning, producing six runs to put the game out of reach.
Abbi Jones,
Kyla Fitch, and
Amari Mapps each contributed with RBI singles during an explosive rally, but it was Olivia Mason who delivered the game's defining moment — a walk-off grand slam that sealed a dramatic 12-2 victory. Albany State showcased its strength with an impressive 18-hit performance in the finale, demonstrating the lineup's depth and consistency throughout the game.
Kaylah Howard led the offensive charge with a perfect 4-for-4 outing, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Mason delivered a huge day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Mapps added three hits and an RBI, while Jones and Fitch each recorded multi-hit performances.
McKenzie Fitch earned her 20th victory of the season in the circle, striking out four batters across six innings while limiting Trinity to just two runs.
Players of the Day honors went to
Tamia Pierce for her dominant Game 1 pitching performance and
Kaylah Howard, who finished an outstanding 6-for-6 at the plate across the doubleheader.
Amari Mapps also turned in a notable performance, collecting five hits over the two games.
