Cochran, Ga. — The Albany State Golden Rams showed flashes of offensive firepower Tuesday afternoon but came up short in a 9-6 road loss to the Middle Georgia Knights in a competitive non-conference matchup.
Despite the final score, Albany State produced timely hits and strong individual performances, keeping the pressure on throughout the contest and fighting until the final out.
The Golden Rams tallied six runs on six hits, capitalizing on opportunities across multiple innings. Leading the charge offensively was designated hitter Mason Turner, who turned in a standout 3-for-5 performance at the plate with two runs scored. His consistency provided a steady presence in the middle of the lineup.
Luke Addison delivered one of the biggest swings of the afternoon, blasting his first home run of the season. The solo shot not only energized the dugout but also accounted for one of Albany State's five RBIs on the day. Addison added another RBI to his stat line, continuing to be a dependable contributor offensively.
Isaiah Haygood,
David Kile,
Perry Usher, and
Ryan Brown each recorded an RBI, showcasing the depth of the lineup. Albany State also demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks and consistently forcing Middle Georgia's pitchers to work deep into counts.
Albany State remained aggressive on the base paths and worked to manufacture scoring opportunities. The Golden Rams left 11 runners on base, a sign of their ability to generate traffic throughout the game. Even when trailing, they continued to compete in every at-bat and refused to let the game slip away without a fight.
Defensively, the Golden Rams executed a clean double play turned by
Luke Addison,
Ty Grover, and
Perry Usher, halting momentum during a critical stretch. On the mound,
Armando Nunez led the pitching effort, tossing 62 pitches and working through traffic while keeping the Rams within striking distance.
Sebastian Griffeth, Will Pridgen, and
Riley Barker each provided relief appearances, combining to battle through key innings late in the contest.
Up next, Albany State returns home to resume conference play with a weekend series against Savannah State in Albany, Ga., on March 6-7. With momentum building and key bats heating up, the Golden Rams will look to turn Tuesday's lessons into conference success in front of their home crowd.
