Early Spark Shows Promise as Golden Rams Battle Against Columbus State

Albany, Ga. — The Albany State Golden Rams showed flashes of strong execution and resilience despite a 7-2 setback to Columbus State, highlighted by an early offensive surge and steady moments on the mound.

Albany State wasted no time setting the tone, manufacturing two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Arin Chevers ignited the rally, crossing home plate on a wild pitch to put the Golden Rams on the board. Moments later, Mylon Uribe delivered a productive at-bat, grounding out to bring Emory Stephens home and extend the lead to 2-0.

The Golden Rams continued to show competitiveness at the plate throughout the contest, tallying six hits. Chevers led the way with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4, while David Cooper and Jaden Camp each contributed doubles, showcasing the team's ability to generate extra-base opportunities. Camp also added a walk, reaching base, and applying pressure on the Columbus State defense.

On the basepaths, Albany State remained aggressive, with Luke Addison swiping a stolen base, further demonstrating the team's intent to create scoring chances.

On the mound, Jeremiah Reddell delivered an impressive start, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out one. His command early in the game helped Albany State maintain momentum and control through the opening frames. Andrew Keown and Luke Hayes also turned in solid relief appearances, combining for 2.2 innings without allowing an earned run, with Hayes striking out two in a clean inning of work to close his outing.

Defensively, the Golden Rams showed the ability to respond under pressure, turning a key double play to halt momentum and limit further damage.
Albany State's early energy and production, paired with strong individual efforts at the plate and on the mound, highlighted the team's potential as they continue to build consistency.

Up next, the Golden Rams will remain at home as they resume conference play with a weekend series against Clark Atlanta University. The series opens on Friday, March 28, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.Top of Form
