A Full Slate Ahead: Golden Rams Prepare for Busy Week Across the Diamond and the Court

Albany, Ga. - Albany State Athletics gears up for a packed and exciting week as the Golden Rams and Lady Golden Rams take part in multiple competitions across softball, basketball, and baseball. With two basketball doubleheaders, a baseball midweek non-conference matchup followed by the conference opener, and softball continuing its early-season road stretch, the week ahead promises plenty of action and opportunities for growth.
The week opens on the diamond as the Lady Golden Rams softball team hits the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Talladega College on Tuesday, February 10. Albany State enters the matchup looking to build momentum after opening the season against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Despite the early setbacks, the Lady Rams will lean on experience and resilience as they face a Talladega squad they have had success against, holding a 3–1 series advantage since meeting in 2024.

On Wednesday, February 11, the focus shifts to the hardwood as Albany State welcomes Miles College to town for a key SIAC basketball doubleheader. Both the men's and women's teams come into the contest after splitting road games against Savannah State and Edward Waters, showing flashes of strong play on both ends of the floor. The matchup also offers a chance for redemption, as Miles College claimed both meetings earlier this season. With conference standings beginning to take shape, Wednesday's doubleheader inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex carries added importance.

Baseball action continues midweek as the Golden Rams travel to Columbus, Georgia, to face regional foe Columbus State in a non-conference showdown on Wednesday, February 11. Albany State will look to regroup and refocus following a challenging opening weekend at the UWA Invitational. The matchup provides a valuable opportunity to fine-tune execution ahead of conference play while facing a familiar in-state opponent.

The weekend brings an even fuller slate. Softball heads to Covington, Georgia, to compete in the HBCU Softball Collegiate Classic on February 14–15. The Lady Rams will open tournament play on Saturday against Virginia State and Virginia Union, before returning on Sunday to face Elizabeth City State and Southern University. The multi-day event offers Albany State a chance to test itself against a diverse field while gaining valuable early-season experience.

Baseball officially opens SIAC play with a three-game weekend series against Kentucky State. The series begins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. As conference competition begins, the Golden Rams will look to establish a strong foundation and set the tone for the season ahead.

Rounding out the week, both the men's and women's basketball teams return to the road on Saturday, February 14, traveling to Mobile, Alabama, for an SIAC matchup against Spring Hill College. With conference races tightening, the road test will
provide another opportunity for both squads to continue building consistency and confidence.
