Livingston, Ala. - The Albany State baseball team wrapped up day two of the UWA Invitational with a pair of competitive performances that highlighted the Golden Rams' resilience, depth, and offensive potential against strong regional opponents.
Against West Alabama, Albany State showcased its fight after facing an early deficit. The Golden Rams fell behind 4–0 in the opening innings but responded with an impressive rally in the fifth.
Emory Stephens jump-started the comeback with an RBI single, followed by a perfectly placed bunt single from
Jaden Camp to bring another run home. The inning was capped by a clutch two-run single from
Tyler Turner, tying the game at 4–4 and shifting momentum firmly in Albany State's favor.
Turner delivered a standout performance at the plate, finishing with three hits and two RBIs, while
Perry Usher added a strong two-hit outing that included a double. The Golden Rams totaled 11 hits in the contest, consistently putting pressure on the Tigers' defense. On the mound, the bullpen provided quality relief, with
Calvin Baker and
Luke Hayes combining for multiple scoreless innings to keep Albany State within striking distance throughout a tightly contested game.
Later in the day against Augusta, Albany State's offense produced one of the tournament's biggest highlights. After falling behind early, the Golden Rams erupted in the third inning behind a monumental swing from Turner, who launched a grand slam to center field to tie the game at 4–4. The home run marked Turner's first of the season and accounted for all four Albany State runs, underscoring his impact and leadership in the lineup.
Albany State also showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks and continuing to compete in every at-bat. Defensively and on the mound,
Riley Barker delivered a strong outing in relief, tossing two scoreless innings and limiting Augusta's offense during his appearance.
Up next, Albany State will remain on the road for a midweek non-conference matchup against Columbus State in Columbus, Georgia, looking to build on the positives from a challenging and productive weekend of competition.
