Golden Rams Prevail in Double-Overtime Senior Day Thriller

Albany, Ga. — In a game that perfectly matched the emotion of Senior Day, the Albany State Golden Rams delivered a memorable performance, outlasting Benedict College 85-81 in a thrilling double-overtime battle at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex. Fueled by resilience, clutch shooting, and unwavering composure, Albany State closed the regular season in dramatic fashion.

The Golden Rams faced adversity throughout the afternoon but never wavered. Trailing late in regulation, Albany State found its defining moment when Joseph Frazier knocked down a pressure-packed shot that electrified the home crowd and forced overtime. The clutch basket shifted momentum and symbolized the team's determination to extend its season finale.

Shakur Poteat once again led the Golden Rams with a spectacular effort, pouring in 27 points across 50 minutes of action. Poteat connected on four three-pointers and went 7-of-9 from the free-throw line, delivering critical scoring when Albany State needed it most. Cameron Evans provided a powerful complementary performance with 21 points, showcasing efficiency by shooting 6-of-9 from the field and an impressive 8-of-9 at the stripe. Evans also grabbed seven rebounds and added three steals in a strong all-around outing.

Kendale Johnson added 11 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while Khimani Hopkinson contributed eight points and three rebounds off the bench. Jeremiah Edwards chipped in 10 points and four rebounds, helping Albany State maintain balance during extended play. The Golden Rams' bench proved pivotal, contributing 39 points and providing key energy during both overtime periods.

Albany State showed grit at the foul line in the extra sessions, converting 15 combined free throws across the two overtimes, including an outstanding 11-of-12 performance in the second overtime alone. That efficiency, paired with timely defensive stops, allowed the Golden Rams to secure the victory in the closing moments.

The win caps an unforgettable Senior Day and sends Albany State into postseason play with momentum and confidence.
