Golden Rams Rally Past Miles College, 74–71, in Black History Blackout Thriller

Albany, Ga. — The Albany State Golden Rams delivered a statement performance Thursday night inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex, storming back for a 74–71 victory over Miles College in front of an electric Black History Blackout crowd. The win not only energized the home fans but also extended Albany State's winning streak in dramatic fashion.

Trailing 35–31 at halftime, the Golden Rams responded with poise and purpose, erupting for 43 second-half points while tightening defensively down the stretch. Albany State shot a blistering 57.7 percent from the field in the final period, showcasing both efficiency and execution when it mattered most.

Shakur Poteat led the charge with a sensational outing, pouring in a game-high 34 points on an extraordinary 11-of-12 shooting performance. The dynamic guard was nearly flawless from deep (5-of-6) and perfect at the free-throw line (7-of-7), repeatedly delivering momentum-shifting baskets. His final three-pointer of the night capped his scoring and helped seal the Golden Rams' late-game push.

Albany State's balanced attack proved equally vital. Cameron Evans added 11 points while contributing across the stat sheet with four rebounds and three assists. Jeremiah Edwards chipped in eight points and two assists, while Kendale Johnson battled defensively and added key minutes in the backcourt.

Inside, Christian Gary anchored the Golden Rams with a team-high eight rebounds, complementing his six-point effort and providing a steady presence on the glass. Albany State's physicality and effort helped control critical possessions, limiting second chances and creating opportunities in transition.

The Golden Rams' bench provided timely production and energy. Khimani Hopkinson was perfect from the floor (3-of-3), scoring six points in just 10 minutes. Malique Johnson dished out three assists to go along with three points, while Sterling Moody and Joe Frazier added valuable contributions in limited action.

As a team, Albany State shot an impressive 53.8 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. The Golden Rams were particularly sharp at the free-throw line in the second half, converting 9-of-10 attempts (90 percent), a critical factor in closing out the contest.

Albany State controlled the flow for much of the evening, holding the lead for over 25 minutes and building a second-half advantage as large as 14 points. When Miles mounted a late challenge, the Golden Rams answered with composure, defensive stops, and clutch shot-making to secure the victory.

Up Next: The Golden Rams return to conference play on the road for their final regular-season road trip, traveling to Mobile, Ala., to face Spring Hill College on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
