ATLANTA, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team continued its impressive run Thursday evening, sweeping Clark Atlanta University in straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Lady Golden Rams improved to 16-8 overall and 10-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play, extending their winning streak to seven consecutive matches.
Albany State delivered an efficient offensive performance, recording 43 kills while hitting .337 as a team. The Lady Golden Rams also finished with nine service aces, 37 digs and six total team blocks.
Lady Golden Rams Control the Match
Albany State came out strong in the opening set, recording 16 kills on a .400 hitting percentage to secure a 25-17 victory.
The second set proved to be the most competitive of the evening, featuring nine ties and four lead changes. Despite the back-and-forth battle, Albany State maintained its composure and pulled away for a 25-20 win.
The Lady Golden Rams carried that momentum into the third set, closing out the match with another 25-17 victory to complete the sweep.
Perez Leads Balanced Offensive Attack
Jarianis Perez led Albany State offensively with a match-high 13 kills on 25 attempts while committing just one attacking error for an impressive .480 hitting percentage. Perez also contributed nine digs, one service ace and one block assist.
Aleiah Carr provided another strong performance, finishing with nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage, along with one solo block and one block assist.
Serenity Jackson added six kills while hitting a team-best .556, and Amiria Anderson contributed six kills on a .385 hitting percentage.
Maya Ogbogu finished with four kills, four service aces and two block assists, while Shaniya Banks added three kills, one solo block and one block assist.
Defensively, Myra Lopez led the Lady Golden Rams with a match-high 16 digs and three service aces.
Albany State also received strong contributions from its setters, as Liannette Burgos recorded 19 assists, Trinity Britt added 13 assists and one service ace, and Onyinyechi Nwosu contributed six assists.
Albany State Continues Conference Success
The Lady Golden Rams held Clark Atlanta to a .148 hitting percentage and 30 total kills while controlling the match offensively.
Kai Harris led Clark Atlanta with 12 kills, while Antonique Coleman added seven. Sydney Ray recorded 25 assists for the Panthers.
The victory marked Albany State's seventh consecutive win and continued the team's strong performance in conference competition, improving its SIAC record to 10-1.
The Lady Golden Rams will look to carry their momentum into their next contest on the road in Savannah, where they play the Savannah State Tigers next Tueday, October 13th.
