ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany State University women's volleyball team returns home Tuesday evening for a highly anticipated Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivalry matchup against Fort Valley State University at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex.
First serve between the Golden Rams and Wildcats is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Albany State enters the rivalry contest playing some of its best volleyball of the season. The Golden Rams have won five consecutive matches and eight of their last nine SIAC contests, continuing to build momentum as conference play moves deeper into October.
ASU is coming off a successful trip to Wilberforce, Ohio, for the second SIAC Crossover of the season. The Golden Rams opened the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Miles before sweeping Lane in straight sets. Albany State entered the weekend already riding momentum following a 3-0 home victory over Allen.
Senior outside hitter Jarianis Perez continues to lead the Golden Rams' attack and has established herself as one of the conference's top offensive threats. Perez entered the crossover ranked second in the SIAC in both kills and points. She recorded 19 kills and 10 digs against Miles before following with 13 kills and no attack errors against Lane.
Albany State has also received strong production from throughout its lineup. Shaniya Banks has provided an efficient presence at the net, while Serenity Jackson has continued to contribute in the middle. Amiria Anderson has added another offensive option for the Golden Rams, including a 12-kill performance while hitting .524 against Miles
Setters Liannette Burgos and Trinity Britt have helped direct the Albany State offense, while Myra Lopez has provided a steady presence defensively in the back row.
Tuesday's contest provides another important opportunity for the Golden Rams as they return to their home floor for one of the biggest rivalry matches on the schedule. Albany State and Fort Valley State will meet twice during the regular season, with the Golden Rams making the return trip to Fort Valley on Oct. 30.
With momentum on their side and a rivalry opponent coming to Albany, the Golden Rams will look to protect home court and continue their strong run through SIAC play.
First serve is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex.
