SIAC Season Week #9
ASU (3-5/3-3 SIAC) vs. Clark Atlanta (2-6/2-4 SIAC)

It will be a battle of wills on Saturday afternoon on the CAU Panther Stadium red turf. A match up of two Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference long-time foes both needing to put up a 'W' back in the win column.
The Golden Rams played well defensively but they could not get their footing last week against the nationally-ranked Tigers of Benedict College. Following a scoreless opening frame, ASU could not recover from Benedict putting up 20 points in the second quarter in the 29-8 final. It was the second tough defeat in as many weeks after ASU fell in a late 17-14 decision at Tuskegee the week before. ASU aims for the same response as it had when it started the year with a pair of defeats to FCS Florida A&M (20-7) and defending CIAA champion Johnson C. Smith (27-7). After the opening, ASU has won 3 of its next four contests (wins over both Savannah State (49-17) and Allen (32-28) before splitting home contests to Kentucky State (24-16) and Lane College (51-0).
The Panthers try for their second win in a row at home. Two weeks ago, CAU edged out a 17-14 victory over visiting Allen University. CAU, though, could not turn it into a win streak as high-flying Edward Waters raced past them by a 62-14 final tally. The Panthers lone other win of the year came just down the street at rival Morehouse College in the second game (31-21).

    Matchup Common Opponents
ASU and Clark Atlanta have played three common opponents to this point in the 2025 campaign. Both teams have recorded the same level of success at 1-2 in those games.
Albany State prevailed at Allen (32-28), but fell short against both Kentucky State (24-16) and Benedict College (29-8).
Clark Atlanta dropped a 30-3 contest to Kentucky State and a similar 31-3 final to Benedict, while it pulled out the 17-14 win over Allen.

52nd Meeting between Rams & Panthers
For the second year in a row, ASU and CAU meet on the gridiron. The long-running series took off both the 2023 and 2024 seasons before rekindling the match ups last year.
In the previous 51 meetings, the Golden Rams hold a large success rate at 86.3% with a 44-7 mark. ASU has won each of the last five battles, including last Oct. 11 in Albany by a 32-7 tally.
ASU did not allow Clark Atlanta to score a point in 2022 (35-0), which was the last contest played in Atlanta, and 2021 (49-0).
The Golden Rams also prevailed in Atlanta by a 54-19 final in 2019 and 36-3 for 2018.
CAU's last victory in the series came on its home field on Oct. 21 of 2017 in a high-scoring 44-36 final.

Last Meeting – ASU 32, Clark Atlanta 7 (Oct. 11. 2025)

Albany, Ga. – The Albany State Golden Rams continued their dominance over Clark Atlanta University, securing a decisive 32–7 victory at the Albany State University Coliseum. With the win, the Golden Rams improved to 5–1 overall and 4–0 in SIAC play, extending their winning streak against the Panthers to five straight games and their all-time series lead to 44–7.

From the opening kickoff, Albany State set the tone with a balanced offensive attack and a relentless defense that controlled the tempo throughout the afternoon. Senior kicker Kyle Wright put the Rams on the board early with a 33-yard field goal, and quarterback Jaydon Kinney found Jamill Williams for a 16-yard touchdown to cap off a strong first half. Wright added another field goal before the break to make it 13–7 at halftime.

In the second half, the Rams' ground game took over. Running backs Tiant Wyche and Aljhanod Thomas combined for over 200 rushing yards, with Wyche punching in a 3-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Kinney adding a 1-yard quarterback sneak in the fourth. Roderick McCrary sealed the win with a late 4-yard touchdown run, bringing the final to 32–7.

Defensively, Albany State was dominant, holding the Panthers to just 76 rushing yards and forcing multiple turnovers. Chauncie Brown led the team with eight tackles, while Luke Rose grabbed an interception to highlight a defensive unit that pressured Clark Atlanta all game long. The Rams' front seven, anchored by Isaiah Morrison and D'Avary Weeks, recorded five tackles for loss and one sack, disrupting the Panther offense at every level.

On special teams, Wright went 2-for-2 on field goals and continued to provide strong kickoff coverage, while Cameron Watts added 29 yards on punt returns to keep the Rams in strong field position.

ASU Last Game: Tigers Second-Quarter Propels to Win over Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. – It was the fourth meeting between the two best Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams of the last five years in exactly a calendar year. Unlike the three 2025 results, No. 23 Benedict College rode a 20-point second quarter on its way to a 29-8 Saturday afternoon football victory over Albany State.

After a scoreless opening 15 minutes, the Golden Ram defense stiffened on their 36-yard line, but the Tiger kicker Zane Spires booted a 53-yard field goal at 13:36 and his team would never trail. Benedict used a defensive score, a 51-yard run and a second long Spires field goal for a 20-0 halftime tally.

ASU (3-5/3-3 SIAC) finally was able to move the ball on offense with a 77-yard, 11-play drive in the first three minutes of the final stanza. The Golden Rams capped it lone scoring drive when Roderick McCrary plunged into the end zone from a yard out with 8:52 to make it 20-6 at the time.

Benedict answered right back to seal the win with an A'chean Durant 10-yard run on the first play after ASU turned it over on down at its own 10-yard line with 3:44 remaining. ASU did get the final two points of the game on a muffed punt, which the Benedict returner batted the ball through the end zone for a safety.

For the first time in the regular season since 2022, Benedict edged out a victory in Albany. ASU took all three meetings last year played in Albany for the regular season, SIAC Championship and NCAA DII Region 2 Semifinal. It was Benedict's first win also in the series since it took the 2023 SIAC Championship game played in Atlanta (43-10).

The Golden Rams were able to triple their total offense in the second half to 152 yards on 64 plays. The Tigers finished with 315 yards on the same amount of 64 plays.

In relief of starting quarterback Jeffery Davis, who left the game after the first series, Vinson Berry completed 9 of 27 attempts for 92 yards and two interceptions. Cardrece Mobley grabbed four passes for 29 yards and Jaquan Graham had the top yardage with one 31-yard reception. McCrary ran for 26 yards on 13 rushes and Jayden Threatts accounted for 28 yards on 10 totes.

Derrick Drayton and Ricky McCrary guided the ASU defense with seven tackles apiece. Drayton had 1.5 tackles for loss and a QB hurry, while McCrary forced a fumble. Chancie Brown and De'Avary Weeks added six stops each and a combined three tackles for loss. Cameron Watts and Jayden Thompson picked off Tiger passes.
