ALBANY, GA. – Riding a nine-match winning streak, the Albany State University women's volleyball team heads to Columbia, South Carolina, for a pair of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchups this week. Under the leadership of head coach Verniece Graham, Albany State enters the two-match road trip with an 18-8 overall record and an impressive 12-1 mark in SIAC play. The Lady Golden Rams have been one of the conference's hottest teams, winning nine consecutive matches while continuing to build momentum as the regular season approaches its final stretch.
Lady Golden Rams Continue Impressive Run
Albany State is coming off another successful week, earning victories over Savannah State and Edward Waters to extend its winning streak to nine matches.
The Lady Golden Rams opened last week with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Savannah State on Tuesday, October 13, securing their eighth consecutive victory and 17th straight set won. Albany State controlled the match from start to finish, recording 41 kills, 40 assists, eight service aces and 50 digs while posting an impressive .329 team hitting percentage.
Albany State followed that performance with a 3-1 victory over Edward Waters on Thursday, October 15, inside Jones Brothers HPER Gymnasium. The Lady Golden Rams claimed the opening two sets 25-16 and 25-15 before Edward Waters responded with a third-set victory. Albany State regrouped in the fourth set, securing a 25-20 win to extend its winning streak to nine.
Aleiah Carr led the offensive attack against Edward Waters with a team-high 12 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Jarianis Perez delivered another strong all-around performance, finishing with nine kills, four service aces and 15 digs.
Maya Ogbogu provided an efficient performance at the net, recording six kills without an attacking error for a .667 hitting percentage while adding three total blocks. Amiria Anderson contributed six kills and 11 digs, while Trinity Britt led the team with 19 assists and Onyinyechi Nwosu added 18 assists.
As a team, Albany State finished the Edward Waters contest with 44 kills, 66 digs, eight service aces and 13 block contributions.
Looking Ahead to Benedict and Allen
The Lady Golden Rams will look to continue their winning ways as they prepare for two important conference road matchups.
Albany State previously defeated both Benedict and Allen earlier this season, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Benedict on September 27 before sweeping Allen 3-0 on September 30.
Tuesday's contest against Benedict will provide the Lady Golden Rams with an opportunity to complete the regular-season sweep of the Tigers before turning their attention to Wednesday's matchup against Allen.
With a 12-1 conference record and nine consecutive victories, Albany State will look to maintain its position among the SIAC's top teams and carry its momentum into the final stretch of the regular season.
