ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team will look to continue its impressive run as the Lady Golden Rams travel to Savannah, Georgia, to face Savannah State University in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action on Tuesday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m.
Albany State enters the matchup riding a seven-match winning streak and has won 14 consecutive sets, showcasing its ability to control matches on both sides of the net. Under the leadership of head coach Verniece Graham, the Lady Golden Rams have found their rhythm during conference play, using a balanced offensive attack, strong defensive efforts and contributions throughout the roster.
The Lady Golden Rams are coming off consecutive straight-set victories over rivals Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta, continuing their strong stretch as the regular season progresses.
While senior outside hitter Jarianis Perez has continued to lead Albany State offensively, sophomore Aleiah Carr has emerged as another important attacking option. Carr has delivered several impressive performances during the team's winning streak, including eight kills while hitting .375 against Fort Valley State. She followed that performance with nine kills on a .500 hitting percentage against Clark Atlanta, adding one solo block and one block assist.
Freshman Serenity Jackson has also provided valuable minutes in the front row, contributing three kills and three block assists against Fort Valley State. Her presence at the net has helped give Albany State additional depth in its offensive and defensive rotations.
Setter Trinity Britt has played an important role in directing the Lady Golden Rams' offense alongside Liannette Burgos. Britt recorded 13 assists against both Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta, helping distribute the ball to Albany State's attacking options and maintain the team's offensive rhythm.
Defensively, Gabby Moore and Myra Lopez have continued to play important roles in Albany State's recent success. Lopez has been a steady presence in the back row, recording a combined 36 digs in the Lady Golden Rams' victories over Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta. She finished with 20 digs against Fort Valley State before adding 16 against Clark Atlanta, helping Albany State limit opposing attacks and extend rallies.
Moore has also provided valuable contributions on the defensive end and from the service line. She recorded three digs against Clark Atlanta and added a service ace against Fort Valley State. Moore also contributed two service aces in Albany State's earlier victory over LeMoyne-Owen, showcasing her ability to make an impact in multiple areas of the game.
Onyinyechi Nwosu has also provided depth at the setter position, recording six assists in the victory over Clark Atlanta. The Lady Golden Rams have received additional contributions from Maya Ogbogu, Shaniya Banks and Amiria Anderson, giving Albany State multiple scoring options throughout its lineup.
Savannah State will look to defend its home court and slow down an Albany State team that has been difficult to stop in recent weeks. The Lady Tigers enter the matchup looking to bounce back from consecutive conference losses against Benedict and Allen.
For Albany State, the focus remains on maintaining its momentum, extending its seven-match winning streak and continuing the balanced team effort that has fueled its recent success. With 14 consecutive set victories, the Lady Golden Rams will look to keep their impressive run alive as they continue their push through the SIAC schedule.
