Albany State Volleyball Heads to Wilberforce for SIAC Crossover

ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany State University women's volleyball team returns to the road this weekend as the Golden Rams travel to Wilberforce, Ohio, for the second SIAC Volleyball Crossover of the season, hosted by Central State University on Friday and Saturday.

Albany State enters the weekend playing some of its best volleyball in conference action, having won five of its last six SIAC matches. The Golden Rams will look to continue that stretch as they face three opponents from the SIAC West Division.

The Golden Rams are coming off a 3-0 victory over Allen University on Wednesday night at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex. The victory gave Albany State another conference win before turning its attention to the weekend in Ohio.

Senior outside hitter Jarianis Perez continues to lead the Golden Rams offensively and has established herself as one of the top attackers in the conference. Perez currently ranks second in the SIAC in both points and kills. She recently turned in a strong performance against Benedict, recording a match-high 21 kills on a .405 hitting percentage while adding 11 digs, two service aces and two blocks.

Senior Shaniya Banks has also been a key presence at the net for Albany State and currently ranks fifth in the SIAC in blocks. Banks, along with Maya Ogbogu, Serenity Jackson and Aurora Rieck, gives the Golden Rams multiple options at the net.

Albany State has also received balanced production from setters Liannette Burgos and Trinity Britt, who have helped facilitate the offense, while Myra Lopez and Gabby Moore have contributed defensively in the back row.

The Golden Rams will begin crossover action Friday against Miles College at 11:30 a.m. before returning to the court later that evening to take on Lane College at 7 p.m.

Albany State will conclude the weekend Saturday against LeMoyne-Owen College at 11:30 a.m.

The Golden Rams will look to build on their performance from the first SIAC Crossover of the season, where Albany State picked up victories over Tuskegee, Kentucky State and Central State before falling to Spring Hill in its final match of the weekend.

With five wins in their last six conference contests, the Golden Rams will look to carry their momentum into Wilberforce and continue their strong start in SIAC play.
