Valdosta, Ga. – The Albany State University women's cross country team kicked off the 2025 season with a strong showing at the VSU Border Clash on Friday evening at Freedom Park, placing fourth overall in the 5K event with a team score of 92 points. The Lady Golden Rams posted a combined team time of 1:50:52, averaging 22:10 per runner.
Leading the way for ASU was
Brea Vann, who clocked a time of 21:30.1 to finish 11th overall, setting the pace for the Golden Rams' lineup. She was closely followed by
Faith Thompson (21:47.8, 15th place) and
Dasia Gilyard (21:55.6, 16th place), as the trio gave Albany State three finishers inside the top 20.
Rounding out the top five for the Golden Rams was
Sydney Haywood, who crossed the line in 22:01.2 for 18th place, and
Breona Issac, who finished 38th with a time of 23:37.4. Depth proved to be a strength for ASU, with
Kaila Wimes (23:48.1, 39th),
Jayda Spikes (24:25.1, 45th), and
Azzaria Brown (25:50.9, 58th) also contributing strong efforts in their season debuts.
With four runners in the top 20 and a balanced team performance, the Lady Golden Rams showcased their potential early in the season while building on last year's fourth-place finish at the same meet.
Up Next: Albany State will continue its 2025 campaign at the North Georgia XC Invitational in Dahlonega, Ga. The meet is set to start at 6:30 PM.
