Student Spotlight: Get to Know Bailo Diallo

Balancing Basketball and Faith

Albany, GA - For junior guard Bailo Diallo of the Golden Rams Men's Basketball team, the journey to Albany State and the hardwood has been anything but ordinary. Born in New York, Diallo moved with his family to Conakry, Guinea, just three months after his birth. He spent his early childhood there before returning to the United States at the age of 10. He began his basketball journey at the age of 12.

Although basketball is one of his biggest passions, Diallo's identity is rooted in more than just the sport. As a devout Muslim, his faith plays a central role in his daily life, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, he observes daily fasting from dawn to sunset while managing the rigorous demands of being a student-athlete. Diallo shares, "Every dribble, every shot, every sprint feels like an opportunity to grow in both my faith and my abilities. I remind myself that Ramadan is a time for self-improvement."

Diallo's personal growth continues to motivate him in all aspects of his life. "The challenge becomes not just competing on the court but also staying true to my spiritual commitments," Diallo says. "This makes me more mindful of how I approach everything."

"As someone who understands the significance of Ramadan, we wanted to honor and support Bailo during this sacred time," said Head Coach Patrick Gayle. "We witnessed his discipline and strength as he observed his daily fast."

As he heads into his senior season, be sure to keep an eye on him.
