Albany State University Names Mark Brown as Coordinator of Athletics Facilities and Operations

Albany, GA — Albany State University's Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Brown as the new Coordinator of Athletics Facilities and Operations, effective April 28, 2025. Brown brings a wealth of experience in athletic operations, facility management, and youth sports programming, along with a long-standing commitment to collegiate athletics in southwest Georgia.

"We are excited to welcome Mark to the Albany State Athletics RAMily," said Dr. Kristene Kelly, ASU Director of Athletics. "His familiarity with Albany State, along with his extensive experience in game day operations and facility management, made him a clear choice. But what truly stood out was his passion for the role, his commitment to service, and his genuine love for Albany State's mission and community."

"I've come full circle," said Brown. "This is a place that means a lot to me, and I'm grateful to Dr. Kelly and the search committee for the opportunity. I'm thrilled to be a Golden Ram and ready to get to work."

Most recently, Brown served as Program Director for the YMCA in Albany, where he led youth soccer and basketball leagues and managed adult pickleball programs. He also contributed to Albany State University's Youth Enrichment Program in 2023 and 2024, where he taught multiple recreational classes and assisted with daily athletic and enrichment activities.

Brown's career in athletic operations and administration spans more than two decades, including a 16-year tenure at Andrew College in Cuthbert, GA. While there, he served as Athletic Fields and Operations Manager and Sports Information Director. His responsibilities included maintaining and managing the baseball, softball, and soccer fields, as well as overseeing operations at Jinks Gymnasium and its related facilities. He coordinated logistics for over 70 athletic events annually—including collegiate games, commencements, and convocations—and managed a team of work-study students and departmental transportation operations.

A native of Shellman, GA, Brown holds a Master of Education from Columbus State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Valdosta State College. A former collegiate baseball player, he is a proud member of the 1979 NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship team at Valdosta State. In addition to his playing career, Brown has coached baseball and fast pitch softball at the collegiate level and held various community leadership roles.
