Peachtree City, GA — The Albany State University women's tennis team is headed to the 2025 SIAC Championship Final after a strong 4-1 semifinal victory over Benedict College on Friday afternoon at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
The Lady Golden Rams set the tone early by capturing the crucial doubles point. The duo of
Julie Tungamirai and
Jonay Brittain dominated their match with a flawless 6-0 win, while the pairing of
Mykala Eckler and
Kennedy Talbert secured a forfeit victory, giving Albany State a quick 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles action, the Lady Rams remained locked in, earning three consecutive wins to clinch the match.
Jenny Zapien picked up the first singles point with a strong performance, followed by
Julie Tungamirai, who capped off a perfect day with another impressive victory.
Mykala Eckler sealed the match for ASU with a decisive win in her singles matchup, sending the Lady Golden Rams to the championship final.
With the win, Albany State avenges its narrow loss to Benedict during SIAC Roundup #2 earlier this season and improves its postseason record to 1-0.
