Fort Valley, GA – It was a tough weekend on the road for the Albany State Lady Golden Rams softball team, as they were swept in a three-game SIAC series by rival Fort Valley State University. With the losses, Albany State falls to 20-13 overall and 11-8 in conference play, while Fort Valley State improves its standing in the league race.
Game 1: Fort Valley State 9, Albany State 0 (5 Innings)
The series opener saw Albany State struggle to find offensive rhythm, as the Lady Golden Rams managed just three hits in 18 at-bats with one walk, while Fort Valley capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues. The Lady Wildcats plated runs early and often, enforcing the run-rule after five innings to take Game 1 decisively.
Game 2: Fort Valley State 5, Albany State 4 (8 Innings)
Game 2 was a heartbreaker for the Lady Golden Rams, who mounted a spirited seventh-inning comeback only to fall short in extra innings.
Fort Valley built a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning, but Albany State showed resilience in the top of the seventh.
Raven Dunham's RBI double sparked the rally, followed by runs from Kady Ayers and
Avery Fisher, whose own double tied the game at 4-4. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the eighth, the Lady Wildcats pushed across the winning run with an RBI single up the middle to claim a walk-off victory.
Game 3: Fort Valley State 9, Albany State 4
The series finale saw Albany State strike first as
Avery Fisher blasted a three-run homer to left field in the top of the first, giving the Lady Golden Rams a quick 3-0 lead. However, Fort Valley responded immediately, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom half and taking control with a six-run surge across the third and fourth innings.
Despite another RBI from Dunham in the seventh, Albany State couldn't overcome the deficit as Fort Valley secured the 9-4 win to complete the sweep.
