Tuskegee, AL – The #7 seed Albany State Lady Golden Rams saw their season come to a close after falling 73-53 to the #2 seed Tuskegee Lady Golden Tigers in the SIAC Tournament First Round at James Center Arena. With the loss, the Lady Golden Rams finish the season with an 8-18 overall record and a 5-15 mark in conference play, while Tuskegee (18-9, 14-5 SIAC) advances to the quarterfinals.
The game started as a tightly contested battle, with both teams locked at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Golden Rams came out strong, led by
Keyra Peterson, who knocked down two early three-pointers and dominated on the boards.
Albany State took control in the second quarter, outscoring Tuskegee 18-9, thanks to a defensive stand and key buckets from
Kendall Davis and
Breana Griffin. Heading into halftime, the Lady Golden Rams held a 34-25 lead, putting themselves in position for an upset.
However, the second half belonged to Tuskegee. The Lady Golden Tigers stormed back with an 18-9 third-quarter run, cutting the deficit and setting up a dominant final period. In the fourth quarter, Tuskegee took full control, outscoring Albany State 30-10 behind the stellar play of Hilani Cantone, who finished with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Golden Rams were led by junior
Keyra Peterson, who achieved a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.
Kendall Davis contributed 10 points, along with one rebound and one block. Additionally,
Breana Griffin and
Milana Holmes combined for nine points and secured six rebounds.
Despite the tough loss, the Lady Golden Rams showcased resilience throughout the season and will look to build on their experience for the next campaign. With a young core returning and valuable lessons learned, Albany State will be eager to take the next step in SIAC competition in the 2025-26 season.
