Albany, GA – Albany State University is excited to announce the hiring of
Ryan Petrasek as the new Wide Receivers Coach, effective Monday, March 17, 2025. With a diverse coaching background that spans multiple levels of football, Petrasek brings a wealth of experience, a strong football acumen, and a passion for player development to the Golden Rams.
"I'm very excited to be part of the Albany community and such a traditioned program here at Albany State," says Petrasek. "The warm welcome has been incredible. I immediately felt very unified with Coach Gray and our staff, and I'm excited to help create a highly competitive team! Excellence is the standard!"
Petrasek joins Albany State after serving as the Running Backs Coach and Special Teams Assistant at Southern Virginia University. His previous coaching experience includes working with wide receivers in the European League of Football with the Wroclaw Panthers, serving as a tight end coach at Pike Road High School (AL), and holding offensive assistant/player personnel roles at Liberty University and Old Dominion University.
Throughout his career, Petrasek has been instrumental in game planning, player development, scouting, and film analysis. His coaching expertise includes breaking down opponent coverages, designing offensive strategies, and mentoring players at various positions. Notably, during his time with the Wroclaw Panthers, he coached former NFL wide receiver Matt Cole and UCLA wide receiver Josiah Norwood, further demonstrating his ability to develop high-caliber athletes.
Petrasek, a Virginia Tech graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, has also been actively involved in player personnel and recruiting operations, making him a well-rounded addition to the Golden Rams coaching staff. His leadership experience extends beyond the field, as he has played key roles in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and high school ministry programs.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently field teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football. All teams compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
