Jacksonville, FL - In a dramatic overtime battle, Albany State University emerged victorious over Edward Waters with a 96-89 win on Monday night at the Adams-Jenkins Complex in Jacksonville, Florida. The win improves the Golden Rams to 17-10 overall and 14-6 in the SIAC, marking their highest regular-season win total since the 2003-2004 season. With the victory, Albany State remains firmly in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the SIAC East Division. Edward Waters falls to 16-11 overall and 12-7 in conference play.
The game saw 11 lead changes and seven ties as both teams battled for control. Albany State held a narrow 35-30 lead at halftime, led by the dominant presence of
Blaise Wallace, who recorded a monster double-double with 27 points and 18 rebounds. Edward Waters responded in the second half, outscoring the Golden Rams 52-47 to force overtime. However, Albany State's poise and clutch shooting in the extra period secured the win, with
Shakur Poteat delivering a standout performance. Poteat led all scorers with 31 points, shooting an impressive 8-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Kendale Johnson added 11 points, while
Cameron Evans contributed eight points and two assists.
G'Shan Aldridge was a key facilitator, leading the team with eight assists and seven points. Defensively, the Golden Rams controlled the boards, outrebounding Edward Waters 47-48 and converting second-chance opportunities into crucial points.
Edward Waters was led by Prince Davies III, who tallied 25 points, while Myles Hosten added 20 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
