Albany, GA – After two dominant wins in Saturday's doubleheader, the Albany State Golden Rams were unable to complete the sweep, falling 9-5 to Lane College in the series finale on Sunday at the West Campus Baseball Field. Despite the loss, ASU still secured the 2-1 series victory, moving to 9-4 overall, 5-1 SIAC while Lane picked up its first win of the season, improving to 1-7, 1-5 in conference play.
The Golden Rams came out strong early, plating two runs in the first inning behind a double from
Luke Addison and a sacrifice fly from
Tyler Turner. However, Lane responded with a four-run third inning, capitalizing on a pair of ASU errors and timely hitting to take a 4-2 lead.
Albany State looked to rally in the fifth inning as Addison stole second and later scored to cut the deficit to 4-3. The game remained tight until the seventh, when the Dragons broke it open with a five-run explosion, taking advantage of a defensive miscue and clutch two-run double from Jaden Garcia to extend their lead to 9-3.
The Golden Rams fought back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs off an RBI single from
Austin Roberts and a passed ball that allowed
Nathan Saavedra to cross the plate. However, ASU could not generate any further offense in the final two frames, as Lane's bullpen closed out the win.
Roberts led Albany State at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Addison finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. On the mound, starter
Sebastian Griffeth pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits.
Austin Lee (0-2) took the loss, while Ryan Kinney (1-0) earned the win for Lane College, tossing five innings of three-run ball.
