Columbia, S.C. — Albany State continued its strong run through SIAC play on Saturday afternoon, securing a hard-earned 66–60 victory over Benedict College to extend its conference win streak behind a balanced effort, timely defense, and poise in the closing minutes.
In a tightly contested game featuring eight ties and nine lead changes, the Lady Golden Rams leaned on toughness in the paint and key contributions up and down the lineup.
Khyla Ragins paced Albany State offensively, finishing with a team-high 14 points, including two three-pointers, and adding five rebounds. Her shot-making helped steady the offense during critical stretches as both teams battled for momentum.
The frontcourt play of
Sariah Johnson once again proved vital, as the freshman forward controlled the glass with a game-high nine rebounds while adding nine points. Johnson's physical presence inside limited second-chance opportunities for Benedict and gave Albany State extra possessions when it mattered most.
Na'Haviya Paxton matched Johnson with nine points, attacking the lane and contributing five rebounds while setting the tone defensively.
Albany State's depth was a difference-maker throughout the contest. Off the bench,
Quantrese Washington provided an immediate spark, scoring 12 points on an efficient six-of-eight shooting performance to keep pressure on the Tigers' defense.
Zora Jackson added seven points and energy on both ends, while
Jolena Gardner was perfect from the field, contributing five points in limited minutes.
The Lady Golden Rams made their move coming out of halftime, shooting over 53 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range in the third quarter to seize control. Down the stretch, Albany State relied on discipline and defense, forcing tough shots and converting at the free-throw line to close out the win.
Tiffani Goodman played a key role in managing the tempo late, dishing out four assists and helping the Lady Golden Rams stay composed in the final minutes.
With the victory, Albany State continues to build momentum in conference play, showcasing resilience and balance as the season progresses.
