Albany State Rolls Past Central State for First Conference Win of the Season

Wilberforce, Ohio - The Lady Golden Rams put together a confident, composed, and complete performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Central State 68–55 on the road in Wilberforce, Ohio. With the victory, Albany State improved to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in SIAC play, showcasing early signs of a team growing quickly in rhythm, chemistry, and poise.

From the opening tip, the Lady Golden Rams controlled the pace, attacking the rim, pushing in transition, and defending with purpose. Albany State exploded out to a 21–9 lead in the first quarter, setting the tone with aggressive drives, crisp ball movement, and timely perimeter shooting. Their energy never wavered, and the momentum they built early carried throughout the afternoon.

Jada Morgan delivered a standout performance, knocking down four three-pointers and finishing with a team-high 16 points. Her confidence on the perimeter helped stretch the Central State defense and opened lanes for the Rams' guards to penetrate.

Paris Triplett made her presence felt on both ends of the court, scoring 13 points while contributing six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Whether leading the break or forcing key turnovers, Triplett sparked several pivotal runs that kept Albany State in control.

Zora Jackson added nine points, including a pair of early buckets that helped ASU build its first-quarter lead. Na'Haviya Paxton and Sariah Johnson each contributed valuable minutes, with Johnson owning the paint and finishing with an impressive 11 rebounds.

Albany State also received a major boost from its bench. Khyla Ragins, Taliah Grier, Chantell Barnes, and Tiffani Goodman combined for timely scoring bursts that helped the Rams maintain separation whenever Central State threatened a run. In all, the bench contributed 22 total points, a testament to the team's depth and balance.

The Lady Golden Rams displayed a relentless defensive effort, forcing 29 turnovers and converting them into 30 points. Their transition game was particularly impressive, with fast-break opportunities consistently shifting momentum in favor of Albany State. Additionally, they dominated the boards with a 42–35 rebounding advantage, further solidifying their control of the game. Even as Central State attempted to mount a fourth-quarter comeback, Albany State responded with composure, executing offensively and securing key stops down the stretch to seal the win.

The victory marks a strong step forward early in the season, particularly on the road and coming off a tight conference-opening loss earlier in the week. The Lady Golden Rams showed growth, resilience, and the type of complete-team performance that can build confidence moving deeper into SIAC play.

Up Next, Albany State continues its conference road stretch on Thursday, December 4, traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for a matchup against Clark Atlanta University. The Lady Golden Rams will look to build on this momentum and secure another strong showing in SIAC action.
