FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team battled through a grueling five-set match but came up short against Fort Valley State, 3-2 (25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 17-25, 11-15), on Friday evening inside the Health and Physical Education Complex. With the loss, the Lady Golden Rams move to 12-12 overall and 11-4 in SIAC play.
The Lady Golden Rams opened strong, claiming the first two sets with impressive offensive execution and clutch defensive stands. However, Fort Valley State (19-4, 13-2 SIAC) found its rhythm in the third set, rallying behind a balanced attack and timely blocks to turn the match in their favor.
Josiya Teague led Albany State with 15 kills and added two aces for a match-high 15.5 points.
Jarianis Perez followed closely with 11 kills and 12 digs, while
Shaniya Banks recorded nine kills and a team-high five blocks.
Maya Ogbogu also contributed a solid performance at the net with seven kills and three block assists.
Setter Mimi Harris dished out 27 assists to anchor the offense, while
Natalie Onozie added 19 assists and two service aces. Defensively, libero
Talia Smith anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs, helping the Lady Golden Rams extend several rallies.
Despite outhitting Fort Valley State in the early stages, the Lady Wildcats capitalized on late errors and clutch points to close out the final set. Albany State finished the match with a .116 hitting percentage, while Fort Valley State hit .145 overall.
Up next, the Lady Golden Rams remain on the road for a non-conference matchup against Middle Georgia State University on Monday, November 4. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Cochran, Ga.
