Albany, GA – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams returned to their winning ways with a decisive 60-46 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday afternoon inside The Arena at West Campus. With the win, the Lady Golden Rams improved to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play, while the Lady Magicians fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference competition.
The Lady Golden Rams set the tone early, outscoring the Lady Magicians 16-9 in the first quarter behind an aggressive defense and efficient offense. Although LeMoyne-Owen closed the gap in the second quarter to trail 27-24 at halftime, Albany State surged in the second half, outscoring their opponents 33-22 to secure the victory.
The Lady Golden Rams dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Magicians 49-33, including 16 offensive rebounds translating into nine second-chance points. Albany State capitalized on turnovers, scoring 16 points off LeMoyne-Owen's 19 miscues. The Lady Golden Rams' free-throw shooting proved pivotal, as they converted 75% (18-of-24) of their attempts compared to LeMoyne-Owen's 38.9% (7-of-18).
Keyra Peterson was a force on both ends of the court, recording a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. She also added two steals and converted 7-of-8 free throws.
Johanna Bell contributed 14 points, shooting 4-of-12 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe, while providing critical defensive stops with three steals.
Na'Haviya Paxton added 10 points and 12 rebounds, giving the Lady Golden Rams a strong presence in the paint.
Alaya Grane chipped in 12 points, including two three-pointers, and knocked down clutch free throws late in the game.
