Golden Rams Bounce Back with Victory Over Allen University

Columbia, SC – The Albany State Golden Rams made a strong comeback on Friday night, earning a decisive 76-63 victory over the Allen University Yellow Jackets at the John Hurst Adams Gym.The victory improved the Golden Rams to 10-7 overall and 7-3 in SIAC play, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

The Golden Rams set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding lead with a 42-25 advantage at halftime. Albany State's efficiency on offense and stifling defense kept the Yellow Jackets at bay, as the Golden Rams shot 52.1% from the field and converted 11 of 21 three-point attempts (52.4%).

Albany State's defensive pressure caused problems for Allen throughout the game, forcing 17 turnovers that translated into 28 points off turnovers for the Golden Rams. Despite the Yellow Jackets' second-half push, where they outscored Albany State 38-34, the Golden Rams' balanced scoring and poise in key moments secured the win.

Shakur Poteat led the charge with a stellar performance, scoring a game-high 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including four three-pointers, while also grabbing three steals and dishing out five assists. Kendale Johnson added 14 points, hitting four three-pointers of his own, while G'Shan Aldridge chipped in with 10 points and three assists, providing stability in the backcourt.

Allen University was led by Peyton Weathersby, who scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Marc Raye, who added 11 points and three assists. The victory also snapped Allen's recent edge in the series, as the two programs were tied 3-3 since Allen rejoined the SIAC.
