Golden Rams Defeat Benedict College in Bridge Builder Classic

Mobile, AL – The Albany State Golden Rams delivered a commanding performance, defeating the Benedict College Tigers 74-64 in the Bridge Builder Classic at the Mitchell Center. With the victory, the Golden Rams snapped an eight-game losing streak against Benedict, improving to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in SIAC play, while the Tigers fell to 3-14 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

The Golden Rams set the tone early, dominating the first half with a combination of aggressive defense and efficient shooting. Albany State jumped out to a 38-24 halftime lead, capitalizing on their ability to force turnovers and execute in transition.

In the second half, Benedict outscored the Golden Rams 40-36, but Albany State's balanced scoring and defensive resilience kept the Tigers at a distance while maintaining a 10-point advantage.

Key contributions from Shakur Poteat, who led all scorers with 27 points, and Blaise Wallace, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, were instrumental in building and maintaining their advantage. G'Shan Aldridge and Christian Gary each added 12 points, with Gary's energy on both ends of the floor helping the Golden Rams maintain control.

Despite a strong effort from Donte Whymns, who scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, the Tigers were unable to match Albany State's intensity and depth. The win marks a significant moment for Albany State, not only snapping their losing streak against Benedict but also building momentum as they head into a crucial stretch of conference play.
