Milledgeville, GA--- Despite falling short on day one of the Bobcats Classic weekend, the Lady Golden Rams went undefeated on day two, finishing the weekend with a 2-2 record.
The Albany State Lady Golden Rams displayed tremendous effort in hard-fought losses to Lee University and host Georgia College & State. After strategic preparations, ASU emerged victorious on day two, defeating Young Harris and Southern Wesleyan.
GAME 1 (22-25, 25-19, 14-25, 23-25): Albany State suffered a tough 1-3 loss to Lee University in the opening round of the Bobcat Classic. Natalie Onozie led the Golden Rams with a double-double performance, recording 18 assists and 10 digs. Jarianis Perez also made a significant contribution, with 10 digs, seven (7) kills, and one (1) service ace. Kaylin Teasley and Joy Robinson each scored eight (8) kills, while Sydney Melton added 11 digs to the Golden Rams' defense.
GAME 2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 24-26, 12-15):Â Albany State University showed tremendous resilience in a hard-fought five-set match against host Georgia College and State, despite falling short with a score of 2-3. Their commitment was evident as they delivered 53 total kills, 10 aces, 10 blocks, 49 assists, and 70 digs. Although the result didn't go their way, ASU's performance demonstrated their tenacity.
Sydney Melton's outstanding 19 digs, 18 kills, and two (2) aces, alongside Onozie and Mimi Harris' impressive contributions of over 20 assists each, showcased the team's unwavering dedication and skill.
GAME 3 (16-25, 28-26, 20-25, 26-24):Â The Lady Golden Rams ended a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Young-Harris on the tournament's final day. ASU performed well, with Perez and
Jayda Watson leading in kills with a total of 29. Perez also stood out with two aces, and
Kaylin Teasley contributed eight blocks. Ozonie provided solid support throughout the match with 22 assists, one ace, and seven digs. Additionally, Sydney put in a strong performance, recording 17 kills and 12 digs.
Game 4 (20-25, 21-25, 25-18, 18-25):Â Coach
Verniece Graham and the Lady Golden Rams continued their winning streak with a 3-1 victory over South Wesleyan University to close the tournament. Melton led the charge for the Golden Rams, who delivered a third consecutive double-double performance with 10 kills and 13 digs. The team performed well overall, with Perez contributing 20 kills and five assists,
Joy Robinson and Teasley each adding three blocks,
Liannette Burgos leading with 23 assists, and
Talia Smith leading with 19 digs.
