Golden Rams Bounce Back Past Dragons, Stay Alive in SIAC Baseball Tourney

ALBANY, Ga. – The Golden Rams bounced back right away. After suffering a tough defeat starting the afternoon. Albany State bounced back past Lane College, 7-5, and stayed alive in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.

Tied at 1-1 going to the bottom of the third, Hill Corley lined a single down the left field line and Luke Addison scored the go ahead run and ASU never trailed again. Nathan Saavedra doubled in a pair in the fifth frame for a 4-1 lead and Corley added a RBI double in the eighth as part of a key two-run at bat for a then 7-4 edge. Addison took the ball and recorded his fifth save to seal the win.

ASU moves on to the third day of the Tournament and continues in another Elimination Game on Friday afternoon, May 4. The Golden Rams will take on the winner of Spring Hill College/Kentucky State in a 2 p.m. matchup. If ASU wins the game, it will play right away in the Elimination Final at 6 p.m.

Opening the day, Savannah State jumped on ASU right away with four runs in the top of the first, including a two-run home run. Emory Stephens and Dominic Rutigiano drove in one Golden Ram each on a single and a sac fly in the home second to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. The Tigers, though, plated multiple runs in each of their final four at bats with five each in the fourth and sixth innings for a 19-3 win.

Corley paced the ASU hitters with a 5 for 7 day with a double, two runs and two RBI. The three Rams of Zane Ross, Austin Roberts and Saavedra each produced three hits – Ross was 3 for 8 with a run and two stolen bases, Roberts went 3 for 8 as well with a run and RBI, while Saavedra hit 3 for 7 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Addison powered a 3 for 3 second contest with three runs and an RBI. Jonathan Logsdon, Bradley Smith and Emory Stephens singled once, while Seth Stargell recorded a pinch hit bunt single.
