ALBANY, Ga. – It took a few at bats to get going but the result was a good Golden Ram game. Luke Addison blasted third and fourth-inning home runs and led Albany State past Morehouse College, 16-6, in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball weekend series.
Trailing 1-0 in the home third frame, Zane Ross drew a one-out walk before Addison took the ball and planted it over the left-field walk for the first ASU (23-8) lead at 2-1. Ahead 3-1 in the fourth, Addison did it again with a three-run shot driving in both Jonathan Logsdon and Ross for a 6-1 advantage. The Golden Rams added five more scores in the fifth and both teams plated five tallies in the sixth before Chandler Walker held the Maroon Tigers (14-22) scoreless over the final 1.2 innings on the mound.
On the night, Addison finished with an impressive seven RBI in his 3 for 5 night with the two and three-run homers and a two-run single, scored three times and swiped a base. Hill Corley doubled and singled and drove in a pair of teammates, while Emory Stephens tripled home one and singled with two runs scored. Austin Roberts was the fourth multi-hit Ram with a 2 for 3 game. Logsdon went 1 for 3 with three runs, an RBI, two walks and two stolen bases. Ross was 1 for 1 with three runs as he drew three free passes.
Brady Davis started and went the first five innings where he gave up only one hit, one earned run and struck out five.
Morehouse started put the first run on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the top of the second for a 1-0 lead.
Addison belted his 2-run homer in the second for the 2-1 home lead. Carson Collier followed with a walk and raced home on a Hill Corley double to left field to make it 3-1 after three.
After Addison connected for his 3-run home run in the fourth, Dominic Rutigliano started the fifth-inning scoring by being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Ross lofted a sac fly and Corley singled home one more as part of the five-run frame and 11-1 score.
Following Morehouse's five-run top of the sixth, ASU received a Stephens run-scoring triple, Logsdon single home one, Addison singled two more and Nathan Saaverdra drew a bases-loaded walk to finish the ASU scoring.
ASU and Morehouse will complete their 3-game series on Saturday afternoon (April 6) starting at 12:00 p.m. with the final game to follow at 3 p.m.
