The Final Serve: Albany State Tennis Seniors

Albany State University has been home to many talented athletes over the years, but there are four senior tennis players who have truly left their mark on the program. Allyah Williams, Bianca Leao, Sumana Panauganti, and Asia Raulerson have all played a significant role in the success of the Albany State tennis team.

Allyah Williams, the captain of the team, has been playing tennis since the age of 14. She fell in love with the sport in high school and that passion has only grown stronger as she continued to play in college. Hailing from Hampton, Georgia, Williams has been a key player on the team and her leadership skills have been instrumental in guiding the team to victory. As she reflects on her time as a senior, she admits that it feels surreal and overwhelming to be at the end of her four years, but she is also excited for what the future holds. Tennis has taught her valuable lessons in patience and courage, and she will miss her team and coach the most as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.

Bianca Leao, a senior from Brazil, was introduced to tennis by her family at the young age of 9. She started competing in high school at 15 and has been a force to be reckoned with ever since. Her favorite memory on the team was when they made it to championships at Albany State. As she nears the end of her college career, Leao admits that being a senior can be overwhelming as she balances school and tennis, but she is grateful for the lessons Albany State has taught her. She has learned how to handle challenging times, be patient, and fight for what she deserves.

Sumana Panauganti, a senior from Hyderabad, India, also started playing tennis at the suggestion of her grandfather. After 15 years of playing, she has become a valuable member of the team. As she reflects on her time as a senior, Panauganti notes that it doesn't feel much different from previous years because she and her fellow seniors have been on this journey together. She describes her team in one word: strong. Tennis has taught her balance and the importance of handling both wins and losses with grace. It has also helped her become mentally and physically strong, and she has learned how to handle difficult situations.

Asia Raulerson, a senior from Clermont, Florida, was encouraged by her parents to participate in sports, and she has been playing tennis ever since. Her favorite memory on the team was when they beat Tuskegee at the last conference round-up. Raulerson credits tennis for helping her mature and learn how to deal with different types of people. The discipline and hard work required in tennis have also taught her the value of putting in effort and reaping the rewards.

As these four senior tennis players at Albany State University prepare to graduate and move on to the next chapter of their lives, they leave behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and determination. Their time at Albany State has not only made them better athletes, but also better individuals, and their impact on the tennis team will not be forgotten.
