Lady Golden Rams Secure Top Spot with Weekend Sweep, Improving to 13-2 in SIAC

Albany, GA- The Albany State Lady Golden Rams continued their stellar season with a clean sweep in conference play this weekend, maintaining their position as the top-ranked team in the SIAC East. With victories over the Edward Waters Lady Tigers on Friday and Savannah State on Saturday, Albany State improved to 15-7 overall and 13-2 in the conference, solidifying their push toward the postseason.

In Friday night's 3-1 win over Edward Waters, Albany State showcased a balanced attack and strong defense. The Lady Golden Rams claimed the match with set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, and 25-19. Jarianis Perez led the offense with a dominant 18 kills, supported by Joy Robinson and Shaniya Banks, who each contributed nine kills. Natalie Onozie facilitated the offense with 34 assists, while Mimi Harris chipped in 17. Albany State's blocking game was led by Kaylin Teasley with six blocks, while Banks and Jayda Watson added five and four, respectively.

The weekend concluded with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Savannah State, with set scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20. Perez again led the attack with 16 kills, followed by Robinson and Banks with six apiece. Harris excelled at the service line, delivering three aces, and recorded 19 assists, while Onozie added 13 assists of her own. Defensively, Sydney Melton was a standout with 22 digs, followed by Onozie with 16 and Talia Smith with 13.

Albany State's consistent play and strategic depth across the court have been key to their success, and this weekend's performance highlights their ability to dominate on both sides of the ball. As the season nears its close, the Lady Golden Rams are poised to continue their strong run, looking to carry their momentum into the postseason and beyond.

The Lady Golden Rams will take a few days off and stay home for the upcoming SIAC series. The series will begin on Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 AM against Allen University. The weekend will conclude on Sunday, November 10, with a match against Benedict College, scheduled for 2:00 PM, which will also be Senior Day.
