Albany State Football Falls to Miles College in Conference Clash, 21-32

Fairfield, AL—The Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams fell short against Miles College on October 12, as the Golden Bears defended their home field with a 32-21 victory. The loss drops the Golden Rams to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in SIAC play, while Miles College improves to 4-2 overall and remains unbeaten in the conference at 4-0.

The Golden Bears got off to a fast start, with Khalil Anglin connecting with Travaunta Abner for a 20-yard touchdown pass just minutes into the game. Shortly after, Miles extended the lead to 14-0 when Matthew Yafondo returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown. ASU responded in the second quarter as Isaiah Knowles found Devon Dorsey for a 12-yard touchdown pass, capping a 13-play, 80-yard drive and cutting the deficit to 7-14.

Just before halftime, Miles' Ja. Leatherwood scored on a 1-yard run, giving the Bears a 20-7 lead after a blocked extra point. In the third quarter, Roderick Thomas added to Miles' lead with a 5-yard touchdown run, though ASU blocked the extra point, keeping the score at 26-7. Knowles and the Golden Rams answered quickly, with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jamil Williams, bringing the score to 26-14.

In the fourth quarter, ASU's Tiant Wyche broke free for a 22-yard rushing touchdown to bring the Rams within five points, at 26-21. However, Miles College responded with another score by Leatherwood, who capped off a 10-play drive with a 2-yard run to seal the game at 32-21. Rontavion Scott and Akil Lampley led the Dirty Blue defense, combining for eight tackles.

Albany State returns home to face Morehouse College for Homecoming on October 19, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 PM. The Golden Rams will look to bounce back and perform strongly in front of the home crowd.
