Resilient Rams Win the 33rd Annual Fountain City Classic

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Georgia, the Albany State Golden Rams defeated the Fort Valley State University Wildcats (13-7) in the 33rd Annual Fountain City Classic.  By defeating the Wildcats, the Golden Rams have increased their chances of advancing to the 2023 SIAC Championship Game that will be held on Saturday, November 11, in Atlanta, Georgia.   
  
Win the win, the Golden Rams improved to (6-4) overall and (6-2) in the SIAC.  The Wildcats fell to (7-3) overall and (6-2) in the SIAC.  The Fountain City Classic started in 1990.  Since then, the Golden Rams record against the Wildcats is now 25-8.  Albany State has won 17 out of the last 23 games against Fort Valley State. 
 
The Wildcats scored the first points of the game when Kelvin Durham connected with Edmonds on a 43 yard touchdown pass with .31 seconds left in the 1st half to give the Wildcats a (7-0) lead at the half.
 
The game remained (7-0) late in the 4th quarter until Jhaydon Sullivan scored on a 1 yard run to tie the score (7-7) with 4:09 remaining in the game.
 
After another interception by the Golden Rams "Dirty Blue", who was phenomenal all game, the offense was back in scoring position.
 
With 1:27 left in the game, Jhaydon Sullivan scored on an 11 yard touchdown run to give the Golden Rams a (13-7) lead.  The Golden Rams missed the extra point, but it didn't affect the outcome as the "Dirty Blue" stopped the Wildcats on 4th and 2 to end the game.
 
Offensively, the Golden Rams finished with 15 first downs and 226 yards of total offense.  The Golden Rams rushed for 120 yards and passed for 106 yards.
 
Dionte Bonneau finished 15/29 for 99 yards and 3 interceptions.  Bonneau also had 27 yards rushing.  Jhaydon Sullivan finished 1/1 for 7 yards.  Sullivan finished with 27 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter.  Aljhanod Thomas led the Golden Rams with 64 yards rushing.  Kieren Jackson finished with 5 catches for 21 yards while Javion Jackson hauled in 4 catches for 41 yards.
 
Defensively, the "Dirty Blue" defense held the Wildcats to 10 first downs and 212 total yards.  The Golden Rams limited the Wildcats to 35 yards rushing and 177 yards passing.
 
Randy Fillingame led the "Dirty Blue" with 8 tackles.  Jalen Mitchell contributed with 6 tackles.  Ahman Ross and Jaree Turner both had 4th quarter interceptions for the Golden Rams.
 
Jhaydon Sullivan was named the 33rd Fountain City Classic MVP.
