A lot at stake when the Albany State Golden Rams and the Fort Valley State University Wildcats collide in the 33rd Annual Fountain City Classic at 2:00 pm at the A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Georgia on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The winner of the 33
rd Annual Fountain City Classic will increase their chances of advancing to the 2023 SIAC Championship Game that will be held on Saturday, November 11, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Fountain City Classic calendar includes a Community Worship Service, Community Health Fair, Media Press Conference, ASU and FVSU College Recruitment Fair, Cufflinks and Pearls Networking Mixer, Kick-Off Morning Coffee Sip, Golf Tournament, Chairman's Reception and Gala, Club Fountain City Pre-game Party, Game Day Parade, The Fountain City Classic Football Game and Game Day After Party.
The Golden Rams enter the game with an overall record of 5-4 (5-2 in the
SIAC). The Wildcats will enter the game with an overall record of 7-2 (6-1 in the
SIAC). Albany State University and Fort Valley State University are both members of the East Division of the
SIAC.
The Albany State and Fort Valley State rivalry dates back to 1945. However, the Fountain City Classic started in 1990. Since then, the Golden Rams record against the Wildcats is 24-8. Albany State has won 16 out of the last 22 games against Fort Valley State. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Fountain City Classic was canceled.
