ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University softball team fell to No. 2 Valdosta 9-0 this afternoon at home. VSU plated six runs in the third and three in the fourth for the run-rule victory. The Blazers hit two home runs in the game.
The Blazers (26-3) began the second inning with a walk. Following a fielder's choice out, VSU singled to center field for two on with one away. VSU hit into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.
The Blazers tallied their third hit of the game with a one out single in the top of the third. VSU then stole second. The Blazers then hit a home run for a 2-0 lead off
Sydney Pettus. VSU doubled to left, followed by an error plated another run for a 3-0 lead. Another home run by Valdosta State gave them a 5-0 lead. VSU added another run to end the inning with a 6-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Blazers singled to left field with one out. VSU loaded the bases with two outs on ASU relief pitcher
Kierra Washington. VSU then doubled home three runs for the 9-0 victory.
ASU had no runs on one hit and one error, while VSU tallied nine runs on ten hits with no errors.
The Golden Rams will return action on Tuesday as they travel to Columbus, Georgia for a matchup against the Columbus State University Cougars. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
